One of the most famous events in the English history took place in Battle on the 14th October 1066. The alter of the Abbey was positioned by William I, this was in fact believed to be the spot in which Harold was killed. The Abbey gatehouse can be seen from the High Street. The Battle field and the Abbey ruins are worth a visit.
Battle High Street is busy as it is a main road. It has some quaint and interesting shops and it has a Norman church with 13th century paintings.
