The club was founded in 1981 so we have just celebrated our 25th season in the Sussex bowling fraternity. Our present membership of 34 Ladies and 51 Gentlemen (mostly) is just about the average level over the 25 years of our existence.
We are affiliated to the Sussex County Bowling Association and through them to the English Bowling Association (www.bowlsengland.com ). The pavilion was erected in 1986 and now sports excellent facilities including a bar, fitted kitchen and spacious changing rooms. Recent additions and renovations completed in April 2006 have made this pavilion one of the best in the county.
We are constantly seeking new members, from all sections of the community. All ages will be made welcome. Bowling is as much a social activity as a sporting one and to enforce this aspect there are several social functions arranged every year, from coffee mornings to quiz’s, from dances to fish and chip suppers. Touring sides from all over the country visit us during the summer. We welcome them most warmly and can help arrange accommodation in Brighton and/or Eastbourne if necessary.
On the bowling side we have two teams in the Brighton and Hove District League, ( http://freespace.virgin.net/league.bhdbowls/ ) in Division 2 and Division 6, and two in the Newhaven Evening League, so there is plenty of opportunity for competitive bowling.
For winter bowling we are fortunate to be within a couple of miles of Denton Island Indoor Bowling Club ( www.DIIBC.freeserve.co.uk ) where the facilities are unrivalled.
